I too, lost a son in the prime of his life. He worked in the commodities exchange in the WTC.
Family members need a place that they can go to and
see their loved ones name. A wall or plaque is very cold and formal. An individual stone would be a place of comfort.
One thing I noticed about myself in the healing process is that I am drawn to water.
I love being near the ocean or a water fall or any other soothing water area.
So I envision the center of the memorial to be a large waterfall, similar to the free falling waterfalls at Disney. Then
spiraling out from the waterfall, almost like a brick walkway or path, a stone with every casualties name on it.
The saying at the waterfall would read:
FOR OUR TOMORROW, YOU GAVE TODAY
